Not sure this is acceptable to this site? Been getting the new format Midwest Outdoors delivered at home. If you haven't seen it, I think it is exceptional and the latest issues have a ton of deer hunting and ice fishing articles. Great info, tips galore. Even an Ohio only section pullout. Check it out.

I have never been a big fan of Midwest Outdoors ... in my experience, the VAST majority of the articles, fishing or hunting, take place hundreds, even thousand+ miles away in Wisconsin, Minnesota or the Dakotas ... some of those are recycled content from other publications that has been pared down to fit in their available space, so some of the contant is missing as well ... I don't need to know how they're catching them at Devils Lake, Lake of the Woods or Mille Lacs, I don't live there and it doesn't help me fishing Erie or West Branch of any place else ... most of the advertising is from that area also, I'm not going to be buying any bait soon in any of those places ...the Ohio insert doesn't impress me much either, it's like an afterthought "oh, we better put something in so the Buckeyes buy it" ... I think they do the same deal for a couple other states that they market to but never fish in ... in general it's an OK magazine but there are very few articles relevant to Ohio ... 'I'm surprised we don't have a better state publication of that sort, there have been a few but they always shut down, and the ones we do have are very localized and not much good outside those areas ... we had one recently called Ohio Game Fisher or something along that line, it was a nice little paper but don't see it anywhere lately ... there's also one from the PA. area, I think it's called Fish and Field report, but again, kind of local to North and East Ohio areas, don't get it in Clevo ...

Bring back "Ohio Fisherman"! Loved that magazine with all its black and white photos. A lot of memories of visiting my grandfather and reading his. It had local writers and pictures sent in by Ohioans of their catches. They even printed a picture of me when I was 12 with a nice bass from the Cuyahoga.

Ohio Fisherman was one that I was trying to remember, it's different from the one I mentioned above ... lol some of the old brain cells are scrambled from that era  there was another magazine that was kind of short lived, maybe Great Lakes Fisherman, but it too suffered from to many articles that were someplace far away for species that weren't real relevant to my needs ... I have some experience working with a couple of them, the print and distribution costs for those things are pretty high until you get to quite a few copies being printed, it takes a lot of advertising to keep them going ...

Count for what, Jim? Just saying the new format gives many tips for catching fresh water fish(all I fish for these days). These "tips" should work for these same fish where ever you live or fish for them. Right now I'm starting to get in ice fishing mode and the last couple issues have many icing articles and learning some new things to try out. I don't have any of the traditional(Big Three) mag subscriptions anymore cause I don't think I'll be going on Safari or bill fishing off Belise! This MWO is all I need for now! Check it out(OR NOT)!!
