Man I was licking my chops looking at the cloudy, cool, and sw wind forecast for Saturday. Then I think god heard I was planning of fishing with the Buckeyes off, then whammo wind forecast switches to 12mph from the dreaded noreaster......cant catch a break! Dammit!
I am going to try and figure something out in one of the harbors Saturday. I don't care what direction the wind is blowing. I haven't had an entire day to bass fish in quite some time. If I don't catch much it is ok. I am going to enjoy my time on the water either way.
Well my friend Mike had to work in the morning so we didn't start till 11:00 but we did catch 47 bass in east harbor. It was slow but steady our biggest fish was 17" so mostly dinks but it sure was fun to be on the water again.
6 square bill
9 swim jig
1 rage blade
31 flick shake
Water temps still close to 80 the fall bite should pick up soon with cool temps forecasted
I caught 13 at Metzgers, another terrible day. The last month has been brutal on me. Hitting the D River for 4 hours before kickoffs tomorrow. Were there shad in there yet? The canal to the lake had shad busting in it pretty good. That is the first signal the marina bite is about to light up.
Looking out the window at work in tears over the beautiful steady rain and west wind and wishing I was fishing. Of course, starting Wednesday there are 8 straight days of east wind forecasted?? Since when did our prevailing wind because a NE fishing killer? Its so depressing.
Man,you guys crack me up! 47 and 13 are slow days! Shoot, I'm mainly, May through September a river smallmouth, saugeye guy her in central, and 13 smallmouth is a great day!
Yep its the Erie effect. If I hit a bay or marina in spring or fall and dont catch 50 LMB that is a bad day. In the summer, anyone can get skunked but spring and fall are just different. When the smallies are in close you catch even more. I've had several 2-man 100 fish days, with average of 7-10 over 5lbs and 20 over 4lbs in that group.
Yep, yep. In my Dad's marina on West Harbor, have had days getting off the boat from perch fishing and casting a jig-n-pig and catching LMB on every other boat slip up most of the canal. If i had the kayak out and could hit both sides, no doubt could double it. Erie harbors will spoil you for LMB and the rip-rap breakwalls on the main lake will spoil you for the SMB.
The cross tail shad is very good for drop shotting. The first time I fished off of Buffalo it was ridiculous. The flick shake is my go to bait when it's tough sledding. I have caught thousands of bass on it including some absolute tanks. The fall pattern will be in effect from here on in. Game on now fellas
