I have had the same thing happen twice (on two separate occasions) in the same general location on the Kokosing river. Throw a bait into some heavy wood cover, and the bait is taken and starts pulling drag and feels like I am connected to a freight train. Before I can even set the hood the line is snapped. When I look at the line it is cut clean. I am using a flouro leader and looks like it was cut close to the hook. Any guess on what type of fish? Could it be a Pike?
Could have been several things including cats or toothy critters (pike/muskie). Just curious, are there any Gar in there? I've had many a Gar get my 4 word vocabulary running non-stop before.
Toss on some good braid, 40 to 60lbs, add a steel leader and see what happens. On some of my cat runs when the gar are also active, I've added the steel leader and pulled in both cats and gar after that. Let us know what you end up catching. Good Luck!
I dont think so, because "You know they're running late"
