Glad I risked the storms

When I woke up this morning I wasn't sure if it would be worth risking the potential thunderstorms. Said screw it since I work the next 6 days. Got rained on the first few hours and was having a hard time getting bait. Was hoping to pick up a stray skip casting at daylight but failed. I haven't thrown my cast net in a long time and I was definitely rusty but progressed from not opening at all to one shad per toss to finally half dozen per throw. Lost a fair amount of fish today I think it might be my new selection of circle hooks, did finally land a small 5lber. Finished off my trip with my second best blue. I was just about to head home, pulled one rod and dumped my last couple shad when my back rod goes off. You always know it's a good one when half way through the fight youre just hanging on hoping for the best. Came out of a deep hole on whole shad, middle of the day.

I did not, thought about putting him on my bump board but figured I'd just get him back in the water. My scale only goes to 50 and I normally only get a couple fish a year (if I'm lucky) that just end up maxing it out. Everytime I invest in a decent scale it just ends up getting moisture inside from lack of use sitting inside the boat. I only fish the river a few times in the spring and late summer until it cools off to chase muskie again. Definitely cool to just get hands on an old fish like this.
