Had the pleasure of catfishing with my youngest last night. We started catching bait together and boy was it tough. Bait robbers were out in full force, nabbed a few but felt the need for more so we went and seined a creek. Considering I got this thing out of a drainage ditch practically, I think it is truly a trash fish! Someone discarded it! Lol

Her bonus while gill fishing

We got to our first target zone where I knew some channels would be waiting below a riffle just for her. A bite came just as she tossed in but instantly broke her off. But that was ok because her next 2 casts were spot on!

(both between 18-20")

With nothing else biting we packed up and out, on to the flathead hole. And boy was it dead there. We fished from about 9:30-2:30 with nothing more than the harassment of turtles. She also scored a 16" channel here, but it got out of my hands when I tried bathing it for pics. She got a big old laugh out of it though, since she got to watch here papa do the catfish hustle with four failed dives in about 10' span of 6" deep muddy sandy bottom! Even more so when she about pushed me in instead of helping me out, AS SHE CLAIMS IT!

We did have a beaver swim within 3' of us, just passed us as if we didn't exist. Her first sighting, she was rather excited about that! Admittedly, I still get excited over seeing the same beaver swim by me every night I hit this spot. He no longer tail slaps the water at me so I assume he's used to me by now.

She spent most the time catching craws and even caught a couple tadpoles. Despite my efforts to entertain, she was getting bored and tired, so we decided it was time to pack up. As the wisest cat fisherman know, ALWAYS pack up rods last! All gear packed in truck, and just as I'd brought in # two of 4 rods out, my newest rod starts running line like no ones business. I yell for her to come back over and she dashes full speed to me and the rod.

Fighting this thing, she just kept sayin, "Dad, this ones huge" over n over. And she fought it like a true champ on my brand new, not caught me a single fish yet, 8' beefstick. Little crap keeps first-ing me on all my toys. First, this little turd catches the first small mouth off of my first kayak. Now she's just caught the first flathead off my new flathead rod! But, it was more satisfying to watch than if I'd gotten a 50# on it myself!

Now there are a few here who would like to call a such sized fish a baby or even bait. And with the flaming attitude she's inherited from her mother and the brute force stubbornness she's inherited from myself, I'd dare someone to tell her such atrocities!:D

But here is her river monster. Weighing 6#'s and being 25", she landed both her first flathead and largest fish ever!

One happy and proud papa over here. Not too many ten year old girls I know who can say they play violin on the weekdays, and play the tunes of mean old dirty "trashy" catfish on the weekends!
