Try off the last weed edges before the water is too deep to have weeds... Haven't been on main chain for a while, but I'd guess that depth at around 12-14 foot.
Use a slip or drop shot to get to a couple feet off the bottom.
Last year in July had some decent days with the redear just outside the speed zone in that depth range.
Good luck out there, and get out early before the pontoon patrol and jet skis, I think speed zone opens at 9am.
Sweet I'll give it a whirl.thought maybe they b deeper .thanks for the info.prolly wait till early morning so I don't have to deal with the speed boats
Ltroyer.
You and I have caught hundreds of gills this year from plx and I've enjoyed and appreciated sharing tips and reports with you. I know you have a few 10" fish. My biggest is 9 1/2. DLO7 and his family caught 22 10" and over in one outing. Really? I have tape measure decals in the front and back of my boat. Just saying.
Last friday I took my wife and son out for a few hours right before sunset. We brought home 22 10+inch red ears. All caught about 4' under a bobber on pinman/ maggot in about 10' of water
Mickey, I don't blame you 1 bit for questioning our catch. I know if I read it I would question it also. It was just 1 of those days everything lined up and went right. We had to sort through a ton of fish to get the right 1's. To be honest when we started I had no intention in even keeping anything. I'm the only 1 in my house that eats them. Well my 2 yr old tries.
I havent had a day of gill fishing like that since the late 80', back when Mogadore used to put out basket fulls of giant red ears.
