Really depressing to see the temps this weekend. Anyone going out anyway? Fishing is probably going to suck, it has me thinking night trip again but I sure have not had much success on those this year.
I'm booked up tonight and tomorrow for the most part. But, doubt I'll be missing much as hot as it is. Might jump on the water for first light on Sunday though. We'll see how it goes.
Fished Fostoria Res. 6 last night from 9-11 p.m. Final tally: 3 channel catfish, 2 sub-15" saugeye, and 1 crappie. Probably had just as many missed strikes. All fish caught on black twister-tails.
Fished an above ground yesterday from 6 a.m. til Noon. 3 perch ranging from 9" to 12.5", a 1lb catfish, a 4 lb catfish, 6 decent white bass, a 8" bluegill, and 3 small Eyes
Also fished an above ground with a friend 6 am to 130 we probably caught around 80 Rock bass but that was it if he remembered how to play a fish on a crank bait he may have landed a 4 pound smallie [emoji23][emoji23] but we had a blast
Just stopped up to Findlay #2. Casted a white Rooster Tail. WB were playing on the service. Caught 12 ten - twelve inchers in 30 mins. Man it was Hot!!
Also kind of funny, I caught most fish on the ultimate cold water bait, the blade on the hottest day of the year. Go figure. Fishing the blade can be fun, I swear every species of fish in the lake will eat those things. What a pain in the ass as much as they foul up though. I also think it is ridiculous the quality of hooks they put on those things. Literally you can catch 1-2 fish before they break, and god forbid you catch a big drum or cat. Ruined immediately, lol. But they are fun to fish. I like the VibE the best of what I've used, but man those hooks are junk.

Try a heavy mono or floro leader.the stiffness of the leader helps prevent the line an hooks tangling each other.
An btw congrats on a good day in the heat...
Trolled last night fom 6:30 til 10:30 p.m. Landed a half dozen small eyes and 2 big perch. Lost another perch while he was spinning on top while reeling him in. Really thought I would hit some cats and white bass again
I hit the river yesterday and laid the wood to em. Fishing was good despite the temps. For you river guys, look for current when the water is low, slow, and hot.
You might want to look into Captain Jay's blade baits. As much as you fish around the Toledo area, they can be found at many of the smaller bait shops near the state line. Not sure what size you need, but they work well.
CMFISH51 told me about 'em years ago....and they work great.
Did pretty good on the river this morning until it started to warm up a bit, then the bite really slowed down for me. fire tiger rooster tail was the hot ticket..
Hit Metzgers early on Friday and third cast with a pad crusher, hooked into a nice 3 1/2 LMB.
Missed a lot of fish and hooked one monster that got off. Also surprised how decent the fishing was with the heat.
Saugeye : I like using the 1/8 ounce (smallest) VIBE they make. Even the big ones eat it. Would that heavier leader work still? Also I am opposed to leaders in general but I guess I could try it.
BFG: Never seen/heard of that brand. I'm in a lot of fishing shops. Could you say closest to Maumee you knows carries them? I'll def give them a try.
Take Summit Street out of Toledo...once you cross the Ottawa River there is a marina/shop on the right hand side. The folks in there are really nice...and they have Capt. Jay's blades in there. I want to say the smallest size I've seen is 3/4oz though...but I could be wrong.
