Headed to Niagara Falls next weekend, it's also New York's free fishing weekend. So with that being said. What can I expect to catch below the falls? What kind of gear should I bring? I know steelies and brown trout are in there during the winter months but I'm really not interested in those. Any info and tips are greatly appreciated.
You can't fish right below the falls. Fishing takes place quite a ways down stream from the falls.Steelies and Lake Trout are the main species this time of year.I would guess after the strong winds today the river looks like chocolate milk (from Lake Erie getting churned up and flowing into the Niagara) I would imagine it will be unfishable (uncatchable) this weekend.Walleye limit in the lower river this time of year is only 1 fish per day also.
I really can't answer that. The closest I have fished is about 3.5 to 4 miles down stream. My guess is it would take 20oz. sinker to feel bottom.Maybe you could use a old window weight for a sinker.lol
lol well the forecast looks like its going to be about 5 degrees Saturday. Not that the cold scares me but I think I might be hanging out a little closer to the pool and the bar than the river bank!!!
