Hey guys in the last month or so I've been hearing a ticking noise combing from my engine so on my way home from work I stopped by the dealership and a tech had a look and there are 5 bolts broken of my exhaust manifold he told me I'm looking at about 1200 bucks aside as he would have to disassemble the manifold and weld nuts to the broken studs so I left it at that so upon returning home I googled it and there's a quick fix to this problem it's an American made gadget which bolts on your manifold it's on YouTube by kap auto repair under quick fix manifold repair any of you guys in the know does this thing sound like a scam or should I just take it to my mechanic and get it done guys any input would be much appreciated
Interesting. That's an ingenious way of eliminating a leak at that spot. And it's certainly easier than the alternative which is removing the manifold and getting the bolts out. BUT is it possible on other cylinders? Are there bolt holes everywhere you need them? I would think if they designed it they would make sure of that. Looks like a pretty good idea to me.
The only issue I can think of is that the bolts break because of the different expansion rates between the cast iron manifold and the aluminum head. If the bracket prevents the manifold from moving it could result in a cracked manifold. But what do you have to lose?
I would check with some muffler shops about getting it repaired before taking it to the dealer. muffler shops have to deal with broken bolts on a regular basis. I think they would be much cheaper than the dealer.

Had an Explorer with a V8 that broke off 2 (that could be seen) manifold bolts. Sucked air (ticked) like crazy until the engine heat caused the metal to expand and fill the gap. I got separate quotes and they started out at 2K to have the work done. There is no room in that engine configuration and had to pull the engine to get to them. Would have loved an alternative to fix....... i sold it.
Just had the bolts replaced on mine. They where broken on the drivers side. They also milled the manifold before installing GMC 6l. Work done at local muffler shop for a lot less
