In the last few weeks I have been getting the bug to get out and sit in a tree. Last weekend I purchased my hunting license, ok good to go. This weekend I hope to contact my farmer friends to get my yearly permission for hunting on their land. I have been hunting the same farms for over 20 years but still get nervous prior to getting signed permission, it can change at any time, several times hunters have tried to lease farm for hunting which would cut me off. Then to the trimming and mowing to stands. I have 15 ladder stands on the 3 connected 3 farms that I hunt. All, I walk out back door and bam I am hunting. I can walk 2 miles to the scout camp but no hunting in the camp, so deer just feed out of the heavy woods to the farm fields.
Not sure how the season will end, my goal is to shoot both deer (2 deer limit county) prior to gun season but we will see how it goes. I am getting softer as I age, I tend to pass up a lot of deer, just because it is too early in the season to end it. I passed on 4 different bucks last year and ended up not shooting a buck, but I had a great season.
Have you been thinking deer or am I just to early?
Do you leave your stands up all year ?
No woods on the farms to speak of stands are on fence rows and I do have a creek flowing through the property. My favorite stand is only 30 yards or so off a exit ramp, I park on the ramp and jump the fence and I am hunting. On opening day about 4 years ago I heard a car accident while in my stand, I called 911 from stand. Long story and different day.
Good luck and get on it this year.
