In the last few weeks I have been getting the bug to get out and sit in a tree. Last weekend I purchased my hunting license, ok good to go. This weekend I hope to contact my farmer friends to get my yearly permission for hunting on their land. I have been hunting the same farms for over 20 years but still get nervous prior to getting signed permission, it can change at any time, several times hunters have tried to lease farm for hunting which would cut me off. Then to the trimming and mowing to stands. I have 15 ladder stands on the 3 connected 3 farms that I hunt. All, I walk out back door and bam I am hunting. I can walk 2 miles to the scout camp but no hunting in the camp, so deer just feed out of the heavy woods to the farm fields.
Not sure how the season will end, my goal is to shoot both deer (2 deer limit county) prior to gun season but we will see how it goes. I am getting softer as I age, I tend to pass up a lot of deer, just because it is too early in the season to end it. I passed on 4 different bucks last year and ended up not shooting a buck, but I had a great season.
Have you been thinking deer or am I just to early?
Do you leave your stands up all year ?
No woods on the farms to speak of stands are on fence rows and I do have a creek flowing through the property. My favorite stand is only 30 yards or so off a exit ramp, I park on the ramp and jump the fence and I am hunting. On opening day about 4 years ago I heard a car accident while in my stand, I called 911 from stand. Long story and different day.
Good luck and get on it this year.

I too feel the urge to get out in the woods. No other feeling than walking through the woods with the crisp fall air, changing leaves and a gun on your back. Just makes me feel so connected to the past. I do need to know though, was it your car that got hit on the ramp lol.

My outhouse blind hasn't been out of the box yet.Still got a little tweeking to do on the x-bow but I pretty much got most of the stuff that I'll need.

I don't have any nearby hunting access. Only access I have is a small private hunting near wilkesville. Only a couple guys have the key and gotta hope they get a group together for a bow hunting trip. Looking forward to some good times!!!

Today I am going trimming at my stands, set a camera. I have 15 ladder stands up in the 3 farms that I have permission. My buddy has brought home the chain saw on a stick from work so trim up what needs to be done adjust the straps on the stands as the tree has grown. Then I am ready for opening day. I have been shooting the X bow a bit in the back yard so lets rock. Most all of my stands are on fence rows as we do not have much for woods in North West Ohio where I live, but we have deer.

I'm really excited as well now that I have permission to hunt on my BIL and sisters place in Cuyahoga county where bowhunting is permitted only in the ordinances. I also will hunt the county I live in as well. Time to empty that remaining deer in the freezer!!!
