Buckeye Lake Wipers

Anyone having any luck with Wipers this year? My wife and I just moved to the lake last winter (excellent timing, I know) and I want to start targeting the Wipers. I've always caught them in windy shallows with spinnerbaits while largemouth fishing in the past. With the water levels being screwy this year I really don't know where to start. I fish from a 1436 jon boat or a kayak, so shallow water isn't really an issue for me. I love near Millersport, so any tips on that end of the lake would be great. I was thinking of bouncing chicken liver off the bottom with a Carolina rig and/or trolling crankbaits and VibEs over by Sellers Point. Good start or wasting my time? Thanks in advance!

I fished Buckeye a lot until this year. If you saugeye fish, the same baits will catch wipers. Vib-e's, lipless crank baits, jerk baits, joshy's, jig and twister tails, and so on. I never targeted the wipers but would sometimes catch some while bass or saugeye fishing. Liver is probably your best bet, since they are raised on liver flavored pellets. So I'm told.

I would say Fairfield beach, the marsh area, Mud island, and around the dam would be your best choices now. You might want to post this in the Central Ohio fishing forum. There are a few central Ohio anglers who are wiper zealots. They should be able to answer your questions more in depth if they would choose to chime in.
