Default Who's interested in Jan. canoe/yak seminar? Cincy OH

Trying to get a feel for who'd be interested in a January canoe/kayak safety seminar. Mid January, Saturday or Sunday afternoon, 2-3 hours.
I've found a couple of indoor pools, In Cincinnati, OH, will allow canoe/yaks in water for demos, will be looking for corp. sponsors like BPS to have "experts" on hand, they can showcase products, etc.
Will focus on safety issues, hypothermia, rolling yaks, how to right a dumped canoe, empty of water while still in water, proper clothing, waders, pfd's, dry tops, wet suits, etc.
Emergency procedures.
Focus is how to get back in or on with all this cold weather gear on, and fishing equipment tethered and otherwise attached to water craft.
Any input welcomed, My first time attempting anything of this nature.

thanks for the replies, CW and Sevenx, I'm going to count Winner and Harry1 in, I'm going to PM some folks here on OGF and see if they'll attend for the demo, or lend some expertise to make it more interesting.
Any and all if you are reading this post, I need to know if you'll strongly consider attending, see if there's enough interest to warrant time and $ expended.
Thanks again
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I can think of three or four people that might be interested (my wife and two sons... maybe my daughter and her husband too). All together we have three kayaks that we trade around on. Loads of fun!

Do you have any idea how much the pool will cost... and/or if any of the sporting goods places might cover this cost? It'd be nice to keep it cheap. I know I have little money, but additionally I think you could get a better turnout if it didn't cost too much.

Is there a reason for it to be in January? I'm just thinking we may need to bring kayaks and I hate to load them on a rack on top of a van in freezing weather. I know, call me a wuss. ...We usually only use them from late spring to early fall?!?!?

Sure sounds like it could be a lot of fun though!

Mark

Thanks Mark
I'm not sure we'll be putting everyone's yaks in, just one of each type to demo the technique's. ????
Maybe we could get everyone some water time, would definitely make it more interesting.
Pool costs 45 hourly, I need to rent it for 4 hours to get 3 hours use.
1/2 hour on each end for set up clean up.
I wasn't going to charge much, just to cover what I can't get sponsored.
Don't know what that is yet, still shaking the tree, boss!
I'll keep you posted, thanks for letting me know of your interest.
Jeff
Happy Thanksgiving.

Jeff,
great idea, I think the drive will prevent me from showing up for the January Safety seminar.

I'll drive to CT for salty bassys, and you won't drive to Cincy for a 3 hour seminar? LOL
I'm going to make that drive, too, Bro!
Tentative plans are to be in MD for my son's HS grad., late may, early june, what's happening in CT re: Stripers at that time?
Thanks for making the username adjustment on UKF! www.ultimatekayakfishing.com

Sounds good to me, depending on the date. January is Key West time.

Honestly, I was thinking January seemed like it's going to be here VERY soon. I'm not sure how Jeff could put all the logistics together that quickly. We might be able to help him, but January still seems like a rush. I'll bet he's got something in mind. He's the one that originally mentioned January, but I don't think that was written in stone.

Key West sounds nice! & warm! You could take me with you. You could feed me... and house me, and transport me. I could be your very own personal free ride bum.

BB Mark,
I'm going to contact Cincy rec. comm. tomorrow, look into last or next to last weekend in Jan.
This is 6-7 weeks out, I'm optimistic that's enough time to get this together.
Hope you all can get there.
If the last couple of weekends in Jan. don't make sense for the majority, the first couple in Feb. would do.
I'd like to get this together, and us together, so we can put what we learn to practice, not next winter.
I'll keep you posted,
Jeff

Sounds good I guess?!?!?

spinfisher, will you be back by then, or should we schedule in Feb.?

Everyone else? January or later?

It would be nice if we could all make it! Can we compare dates and shoot for that?
On the other hand, I don't want to make any trouble by complicating the issue.

Default let's take a poll

Mark,
In deference to your question regarding timing.
I need to reserve the pool.
I'm in agreement w/you, getting as many as possible to attend is my goal.
Being able to meet everyone's schedule is impossible, which goes w/out saying.
My question would be, how, using this forum, would I/we get a somewhat accurate feel for the majorities schedule for late Jan. early Feb.?
Again, I need some lead time to reserve pool, and then schedule sponsors, specialists, etc.
I'm going to open a thread for date polling.
Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Yea... I get what you're saying. You do need a good count. Two thoughts cross my mind.

The first... I'm wondering if we have everyone seeing this Canoes & Kayaks Board. It seems a little "tucked away" so I wonder if there might be others in the forum with interest and not seeing this. Only solution I can think of is maybe we can 'broadcast' a message somehow so all users would get to read it.

The second... with understanding of time & scheduling, maybe that 'broadcast' can stress the importance of an RSVP somehow, ...like to some board/post on the system somewhere. The solution here might be to "see message so & so" (with a link) for details and confirmation. (or something like that)

I guess the reason I brought all this up is that spinfisher already mentioned he may not be here in January, so I was just trying to help on that.

My situation is that I don't quite know when I'll be gone. We usually go in early February, but we've been planning on late January this year. There are some other people involved, so the timing is not totally up to me. It should be finalized soon, but don't hold up planning because of me. I'll only be away for 10 days.

I guess this means two of us could be affected, since BaitBucket is ridin' down on top of my car and sleepin' on the beach. I guess we can catch some food for him.
