Default Tired of Deer, Ducks, Pigs and Turkey TV hunts

I was and still am an avid limited hunter and frequent fisherman. The only game I have not hunted (in Ohio) is Pigs. There is a steady and overwhelming diet of deer, turkey, duck and pig hunts occasionally interspersed with limited fishing. Then too, the fishing is primarily bass, walleye and trout. In my opinion this continued diet of the same stuff starts to get old fairly quickly. How many times can you try to listen to some deer hunter on private leased land whispering and explaning what you have just seen. How about the pot bellied bearded character and friends that looks like they havn't seen soap for a month or two go on about what is happening in the duck blind or marsh even though you can hear the guns blazing and watch the ducks falling. Then there is the rabid pig hunter hell bent on erradicating every pig in the USA.
Wonder how long it takes the sweethearts to get beautified prior to getting into the blind or stand? I can remember when a few of them (not Tiffany) looked like something that suddenly improved just prior to closing time.

Personnaly, I would like to see more lone hunter stalk and shoot as well as small game pursuit.

Well, there is my opinion. How do you feel about it?

Nothing beats a good jump shoot rabbit hunt. I would love to see Waddell so thick in the briars he can't move and try to get out. I personally don't care for any of the shows on the outdoor channel. The only show I can say I truly like is Duck Dynasty and thats because its hilarious.

Deer and Deer Hunting is a very good show. Most of the shows are over the top drama.

I agree Ron.

I can only watch a few fishing shows, Hook and Look with Kim Sticker, the show with mark Romanack and a few salt water shows.

Can't handle the hunting shows at all. They are all promotion and selling. The REALLY sad part is how effective those shows are at selling and promoting product.

The novelty of hunting shows wore off along time ago. I'd rather watch a few u-tubes than most of the stuff on TV. Beside there are too many commercials to even begin to enjoy it.
And the fishing shows are worse, especially the salt water.

Hunting ,fishing, boating and smoking I love to do. But watching it on TV is a waste. I don't watch any sports, realism TV or news either. If I watch TV its only a couple hours a day. So I record a few good cop shows or movies to watch. Even most of those are 50-60's shows. If i want the news I read our local head lines on computer or phone. Takes a couple seconds. Im either in bed with my illnesses or doing something I love. Watching the things I like makes as much sense as starring or looking at other peoples wife's. I have my own and like what I got.
Now going out and doing those things are great and all ways happy to do. Just don't care to waste life on tv. And really after 59 years its had to find some thing new for hunting or fishing that makes me excited. Right now if I dont have it abd its not broke if I do I dont need it. LOL! Enjoying life.

Well I can personally say (IMO) why you see the shows on tv is because there easier to shoot (with camera) then other game or fish. We film our own to share with YouTube and can tell you it's difficult to film certain game. That's half the reason we started filming was to show people out there that there's more fish and more game out there than bass, bore, deer, and ducks. We've been after catfish, wiper, crappie, sauger, frogs and really looking forward to hunting season here in a month to film squirrel and doves (which the doves might be hard) I think the outdoor channel should show more of the small game like doves, squirrels, rabbits, ect. Deer shows are practically the same every time.

To me, the worst thing about the hunting/fishing shows are that, IMO, most of the viewers are new and or young. I think they sorta learn that if you spend enough on the latest and greatest, success is inevitable. I've seen it. New kids that think they need all the expensive gizmos, but, when they go out and don't kill anything, or miss, they seem to think it's because they didn't have this, or shoulda had that. Just go to a local sporting goods store in September and listen to the others around you. You'll hear what I'm saying. It's sad.

In closing, I'd like to thank Dirty Hickory for this awesome camo, All Game Sports for booking these fine lodging accomodations, Stream Wader Boots, Higher Stance tree stands, Chevrolet, Motel 7, and a host of other fine sponsors to follow. Oh, remember to like us on facebook. Happy Trails, and good huntin!

Small game is too hard to catch on film. Can you even imagine trying to get a grouse flush in a camera lens when you can barely raise your gun to sneak a shot at them.

The majority of hunting showes are filmed in high fence. I know this for a fact as my buddy runs a preserve and many big named hunting celeb. Hunt and film shows there.

I've said this a hundred times. Id like to watch some of these guys hunt a small isolated 50 acre woods or a small public woods. I've never been impressed with these guys on tv that hunt these 2000 acre preserves that have limited access or even worse, fences.

Nothing aganist bass fishing, but I would love to see more fishing shows covering other fish. And definitely less endorsements, they would be more convincing if they didn't act like they were trying so hard. Good products don't need that much.

I thing the makers of Wild Ohio could learn a thing or two from Michigan Out of Doors. Definitely geared more towards outdoorsmen.

well not to bash your opinion but I'm 19 and certainly don't think that. Being a poor college kid you have to learn to keep your cost low so when I go fish I just don't have the money to get the best.... So what I always do is find what works. I've always said you don't need to break the bank to catch fish and catch them consistently. All you really need is the bare minimum and trust worthy equipment and your set

I don't watch the hunting so no input there. I guess Im the opposite in that i do like l the bass shows because i can relate. I've got no interest in billfish in the ocean, trout in the rockies, bluefish in Cape Cod or any other exotic trip. I usually skim thru on fast forward to just get the tips because watching them reel in fish is boring.

I did once watch Tred Barta do a stalk and shoot for bear in Alaska with a primitive bow and arrows he made while at the Indian reservation there. I was shocked that it was a whole show but he never even got close enough to take a shot. There'd never be a fishing show with no fish caught right?

As far as fishing shows I agree. Don't get me wrong I love to fish for bass, but those bass shows are getting old. There's a few tips here and there, but not enough to really make me want to watch. What they really need to show is some river smallie fishing. Not the bass boats on a big river for smallmouths, but wading/shore fishing smaller rivers.

One of my favorite shows was the Trout Unlimited On the Rise. It was a pretty good show with lots of tips and such about fishing and the locations and of course all the conservation projects(which is what TU is about), but the past two seasons(w/ the new host) hasn't been that good. It's just watching a guy fish with a little conservation stuff such as "we need to protect river x" and nothing in depth. The other trout fishing shows are pretty bad for the most part, just watching someone catch fish and no learning or anything.

I've always been somewhat of a fan of the In Fisherman shows, but they're getting kinda boring. Just the same old hold a 4lb walleye out to make it a 15lb on some lake in Canada. Some of the episodes are good though, such as the white bass/hybrid ones, gar, carp, etc. and not the same walleye and smb ones.

I don't even watch fishing on TV much anymore, youtube is a lot better

Default Agree completely w /Ron

Same for the magazines as well. If you take out the ads, and exotic hunts in places I 'll never have the desire -let alone the cash -to go too, there 'd be very little to read. I stick to in -State mag's now, having let all my other subscriptions expire. Magazines will soon join newspapers in extinction, as will the US Postal Service!
