Default GMR Report 6/27/12 - Leaky canoe

My canoe was leaking again after my last trip down the river and I figured the leak was coming from the same place as before, a worn down rivet. So I patched the rivet again but as soon as I put the canoe in the water it started leaking. It is a slow leak so I went fishing anyways, I will worry about the leak when I get home. I floated about 1.5 miles. I threw 2 lures the whole time. The Zulu caught 16 with the biggest being 15 inches and the perch colored jointed Rapala caught 3 fish, a couple of rockbass and a small channel cat. When I got home I found the leak was coming from the skid plate patch that was welded under the stern. I patched that area and we shall see if it holds. This spot hits a lot of rocks and that is why it is worn down so bad. I think I am going to look into purchasing some liquid aluminum and cover all of the rivets and the skid plate areas.

Fish on...............

Do you think a thick (1/4" or more) rubber patch would help that skid plate?

I have a couple of missing rivets on my boat and used marine tex putty (gray) and it worked great. It may be worth a shot.
They have other products as well.
