Default Fall mushrooms

Went out with an experienced mushroomer Sunday & learned alot. Found honey's, aborted entalamas, bricktops, pear-shaped puffballs, blewits, hens & many others. The blewits tasted the best. Mushrooms are up big time if you know where to look.

Glad to see you are still with us after your feast....

Kidding, but that's really cool. I wish I knew more about shrooms...one becomes addicted to shrooming after eating morels!

that looks like a beautiful blewit! i had some growing in my yard but they had gotten too old before i noticed them. definitely an "expert" level mushroom....i still have yet to try them.

Morels are good - my uncle and I always find them while we're turkey hunting

Blewits have a pink spore print , if it is brown , it is not a blewit. Always be 100% sure of what you eat.

Saw a guy with some nice big puffballs the other day. Don't recall ever eating them, but my Dad tells me otherwise, and he eats them now and then. The part about 100% certainty on identification is right on--with many of these things, you only get one chance. If you don't know for sure (e.g., your buddy ate some of this batch yesterday and is still chipper today) don't eat them. Some good ones have deadly lookalikes. But if you are sure, enjoy them while they last!
