Default Lmr 6/15

Went out for only a couple hours, still beat from fishing the gmr this morning.
Walked right up on a gorgeous doe walking in, nice way to start things.
I ended up with seven smallmouth in the two hours on three different lures, the common denominator being that it seemed the fish hit when something triggered them. Caught a couple on a crankbait burning it back, I think the lure zips by and the fish strikes without thinking sometimes. Caught one on an inline spinner as it yanked free from some weeds and the rest on a grub.
But instead of just swimming the grub back I would let it pause then snap the rod up making the grib move erraticlly, just the opposite of how I normally fish it. Had a big smallie swipe at the lure right at the rod tip but didn't hook her. A guy fishing for catfish caught about a seven pound shovelhead while I was there also. Then on the way out walked right by another deer at twenty feet as it just froze, a very nice short trip to the river

Good report! I guess the smallies still do reside in the LMR. What kind of water were they holding in?

Went out in Milford tonight for an hour and got skunked. I used a pop-r and the wee craw. Even switched to crawls....Nothing. I can't wait to get out there on my yak next week to break this cycle!!

The fish I caught were in the run or the deepest part of the riffles right where they transitioned into a hole. I didn't really find any fish right up on the riffles even right at dark. That's pretty much the pattern I've been finding for the seven or eight days. I have found a few bass in some eddies below riffles but not many right up on a riffle like they typically are when you can catch a bunch on an inline spinner. Plus it seems like its been worth the effort to hunt out the big bends and s-curve holes and runs over the typical riffle. The runs leading into the big holes and eddies where you look at and think "man thats a big shovelhead hole" are where i'm finding smallies right now.

I went out today in milford as well for a few hours. I caught 5 total fish and missed about three more. I used two new lures today and a smaller favorite of mine. The first new lure I tried was the Strike King Zulu for about an hour with no results. I switched over to a Craw colored tube and caught one on the first cast, (normally a bad omen). But I hooked into 4 more smallies but no real size.

I was disappointed with the Zulu but pumped with my tubes. I finally got some smallies to come up. The water was very low.

How did you have the Zulu rigged? Do you have any questions that I might be able to help you with?

Nice report OldStinkyGuy, I'm gonna be hitting the post-riffle holes on the LMR tomorrow morning.

Still beat from fishing in the morning, too bad we all can’t do that more often. Sounds like you had a good day.
