Hey all, this is my first post.
I live near Griggs and spend most of my time fishing below the dam and sometimes fish the Scioto in Dublin. I was thinking about fishing the Olentangy, but I have no idea where to go. I live near Henderson and have noticed some spots near Whetstone HS. Does any one have any suggestions where to fish on the Olentangy?
Thanks
Bless
The river around the high school is very shallow, and bellow the school be becomes both shallow and silty. If you want to wade that area try behind Graceland and go north or park at Antrim and try down below the broadmeadows bridge. Keep an alert eye out at either place after dark. Most of my olentangy fishing is done further north around Home road and beyond. Have had descent luck but prefer the Scioto myself.

Welcome. Hit the search button on the toolbar and search "olentangy". There is plenty of info on past threads that will lead you in the right direction. It's less about "where" to fish the Tangy, than it is "how" to fish it. The Tangy has fish in it from start to finish. Just make sure you're not on private property, and get out there and explore
You can use the bike path for scouting the river empty-handed first. Park at Wilson Bridge or Antrim or Northmoor and you can walk a few miles of river, then decide where to come back.
Edited to add - that section by Whetstone is artificial channel. Look at how the pedestrian bridge over 315 goes to high ground at the west end. That little service road along the top of the bluff was Olentangy River Road before the 4-lane was built. You can see it on this 1903 topo:

I've heard all the old stories of guys that would drive down from Canada for the fishing on the Olentangy.
It's nearly impossible for me, after standing below the 5th Avenue dam, to imagine guys from CANADA driving down to the Olentangy to fish.
I've posted this elsewhere, FLOW had a public-information event a few years ago about removing the 5th Ave. dam. There was a certain pool-fishing advocate raising a fuss, and scoffing at claims that the dam made the river stagnant and dead. Another guy was wading below the dam, and he pulled in a fish. The pool guy was yelling stuff like "now tell me there's no fish in this river" but that fish came from below the dam where the streambed is closer to a natural condition.
Old Joe does love his dams...(where's the eye rolling emoticon?)
I actually met him at a local bait shop. In person, he's honestly not a bad guy! We had a long discussion and agreed to disagree. He loves the river as he and others remember it growing up. Impounded and polluted, they still caught nice fish. I sort of feel for him, as I grew up fishing urban Alum Creek. He also likes getting his boat in certain photo-op areas that would otherwise be impossible without 5th ave. dam
Unfortunately for him, there is much improvement to be done to the Olentangy. I hope he embraces it after the dam is removed. Also, word on the street is he has a new Jet-Boat that he will be taking on the Sci. South of C-Bus

Well maybe you can convince your new boyfriend to mix in a canoe. LOL!!
I was wondering how long before the jet boat brigade takes hold around here.
I know a dude, Kevin Turner, who owns RiverPro jetboats. He was in Columbus a few years back and wanted to know where he could launch and show off his boats. Which is kind of a difficult question when you think about it.
I suggested launching at Griggs and just running upstream as far as we could. Put it this way, the people at Leatherlips don't get to see many power boats in the river.
Those boats are AMAZING!!!! Hauling ballz in 4 inches of water....
With that said, they're kind of like ATV's. Eventually, some douchebags are going to be running them in areas they have no business being in. Tearing up spawning areas....

You would be a good jet owner as I'm certain you would mix in some respect for the resource.
I know a bunch of dudes with them, but know little about them. I know there's always great debate over tunnel hulls, and angles...lots of geometry discussions...turbulence and cavitation....blah blah...
They are badass boats!!!
I assume you're going for something in the olive green hues...maybe a boat that would accept a quick fold down blind in the winter months...
Nice!!! You just moved up my speed dial list!! LOL!
