Default Drilling Holes In Your Boat

I want to attach an anchor system to my boat but it's obvious that holes will have to be drilled. My biggest question represents what type of drill you folks have been using. I'm not a big tool guy and honestly don't know much about the subject matter. Does anyone have suggestions referencing purchasing a decent fairly cheap drill?

A new cheap electric drill will run you about $25. I'd look for a 3/8" variable speed. Depending on where you live, you may need to buy a heavy duty extension cord. If you have gottten this far in your life without needing an eletric drill, you probably wouldn't use one enough to justify buying a battery powered drill.
You may be able to find a good used one at a garage sale or craigslist for $5-10. Plug it in to make sure it works and spins the chuck ( the thing that you insert the drill bit into..)

Where do you live? You can borrow mine for a day.

Thanks for the advice and I want to purchase a drill. My tool collection is starting to grow after graduating from Ohio State. You just don't need tools when attending except for to construct that cheap particleboard television stand. I forgot to mention the drill was for my kayak.

I don't know what your price range is but my advice is just to spend some decent money and get a nice drill. If you're currently, or plan to in the future, living in your own place then you're going to run into some times when you need a drill. Quite often Lowes runs a nice deal on a Dewalt 18V drill that comes with a couple batteries and a charger for $100. They even sell a Porter Cable brand that would be cheaper and probably suffice for as often as you're going to use it.

Obviously do what works for you, but I went cheap on my first drill and it didn't last very long before I went and bought the Dewalt. Now Im in a trade where I use my drill nearly every day, and that dewalt just does about everything I need it to. I've dropped it onto concrete from about 10' high a couple times and its just got a few scuffs.

Again, im not trying to sell you on anything, but you can get a decent cordless drill for not a lot of money and I think you will be happier 2-3 years down the road.

If you buy a cordless drill, don't buy anything less than 12 volts. Unless of coarse you want to have to stop and recharge your battery after drilling just a couple holes. You can save a few bucks if you get a drill at harbor freight, but it might come back to bite you in the ass down the road. You might just want to bite the bullet and just buy a DeWalt.

I've got a craftsman 14.4 with 2 batteries that I don't really need any more. I'll trade you a 12 pack or a $10 bill for it

That is my problem right now! The reality of saving for that down payment has been brutal. I don't want to pay PMI insurance but it seems that I'll probably have to.

I'm too broke after my first vacation is just ending! I had a lot of fun fishing but it's surprising how much money you spend when there is eleven days to do nothing but eat, drink, ride your bike, and fish.

Thank you folks for all your replies!

Check the local pawn shop. I always get good tools at a cheap price. One hint, dont pay the sticker price. If it's $10, pull out $7 cash and walk up to the counter, hand him the tool and cash and say I'll give you $7 for this tool. They always hand you back the tool and never the cash
