Default Blackberries

Picked a few last night, got the sticker marks to prove it. They were awesome! Anyone else doing any good on berries?

Very few here, maybe a handful at most. I'll be another two weeks at least before they're really ready. And we really need more rain to fill them out.

Same here....tons of green/redish berries but it'll be a few weeks before I start doing any serious picking. The about of berries I'm seeing this season is very encouraging, just need some rain to finish them off.

I'm lucky in that I can reach a hose to these plants to give them some extra water. But that then brings up the point, is it foraging if I help the plants along?

They're starting to ripen enough to go out in my spots. The ticks have been terrible though. The ones that were ripe were very sweet. I'm going to take a walk in the morning & spray up good.

Ours in the garden are just now popping and my plants are really heavy this year, ( they were light last year) starting hitting them yesterday after we got two decent rains in the last 5 days ,Yummy and tasty! Im near Dayton BTW and ours are a thornless variety.

With the rain, some of the patches have explodes with nice big berries. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late for most of them. Everything I pick is wild, so even the best berries are seldom bigger than a thumbnail. No jam this year.

Got a good crop of berries at my house. Some big areas have tons of small berries, and some small areas have tons of large berries! Filled up a bowl a few times on the large berries the last few weeks. The biggest berries are on the west side of the yard and the smallest are on the east side. too much sun on the east side?

Need some recipes for berry cobbler now. How do you guys preserve your berries? I've been freezing them with a little sugar in the bag. How long will they last this way?

Mine were pretty much done a month ago, and the birds got the rest anyway. I hope next year to keep a better eye on them and maybe net the bigger patches.

The last 7 days have been a bonanza at my place and the 4 plants we have are loaded to the ground with berries this year, cant figure it out why this year was 1000 times better then last year, perhaps it has to do with the fact that until 10 days ago, we had only less then 1" of rain in the prior 7 weeks where as in the last 10 days we have gotten almost 1.5" so far out of about 4 rains so everything is growing, I just cut my grass for the 1st time since June 16th. ( seriously, )
Im headed out to fill another tupperware bowl for tonights fruit section of dinner.

I found a good sized patch of wild blackberries along a bike trail near where I live...pick enough to fill a sandwich bag last night and a 1-1/2 bags last Friday...they're loaded, but most are small and dry...still a lot of berries that haven't turned black yet...really gotta be choosy...probably picking one decent berry for 30-40 I see...flavor is pretty good on them, but have tasted sweeter...if we get this rain like they are saying, they might plump up come Sunday...would like to get another two bags or so and should have enough for one batch of jam.

Pick enough blackberries the in mid July to fill 3 gallon freezer bags and got them all in the freezer. Seems like the big ones are always hidden in the shadyed areas.
