Maybe that's why there wasn't a "weed bite" post this year!(At least, I don't recall one!)

How did you catch one on a crawler...? They filter feed algae and plankton?

All carp will eat insects, worms, crayfish, and any other invertebrate they can get. I have caught plenty of common carp on woolly buggers and even during pauses while jigging twisters and blades on the bottom.

I have even seen a grass carp eat grass on the shore... out of the water, no joke. Saw/heard something rustling in tall grass next to a pond and I peaked in to see a grass carp with his head out of the water tearing grass from the shore.

Grass carp are not filter feeders. They eat plants...... rooted plants.... weeds..... hence the name grass carp. And I too have seen them up on shore eating grass from the edge of the water, years ago at Hudson Springs park. That was after they had eaten every weed in the lake. Grass carp are put in lakes to control aquatic plants. They control the aquatic plants by eating them.

As the "read it for yourself" link you posted to the ODNR page said. Juvenile grass carp eat phytoplankton....... not the bigger ones.

The comb-like teeth in the throat of a grass carp are pharyngeal teeth used to mash and grind food. They are not filters like the baleen of a whale. All species of carp will eat insects and invertebrates, especially when there is a lack of plants, like in Mosquito this year = grass carp eating anything.

Exactly so where in there does it say they eat night crawlers? Nowhere. Case of mistaken fish ID

ODNR is not the end-all of information on fish. I am sure that, if you search, you will find more information about carp (or any other species). You will eventually learn that all carp are omnivorous, even grass carp.

Not a case of mistaken fish ID. Just because the ODNR website doesn't say they eat insects and things other than weeds, doesn't mean that they don't. This says they do http://www.in.gov/dnr/files/GRASS_CARP.pdf

The following is cut and pasted from the website above........."Grass carp primarily eat aquatic vegetation but they will eat detritus, insects, and other invertebrates if vegetation is scarce. Because they eat aquatic plants, grass carp are frequently stocked as a biological control of vegetation."

End of discussion.

Hm I see that if there isn't sufficient amounts the will move to insects and invertebrates. I guess you learn something new everyday. I apologize to you two.

No reason or need for an apology. Actually, my apologies if I came off as any other way than passing on some info.
