Default Strange sighting...okay not all that strange

Ran up on this at CC the other day. He was heading way away from shore...so I herded him to a nearer bank. I think he was running from a public hunting area on the south end of CC. Thought it was a cormorine at first (the way they sit with their wings out)...but it was in the middle of the lake. Took a couple seconds but sure enough it was a nice buck. Guy didn't mind me behind him much, but really took off once I got him onto land and he could get a good look at me. Big guy was heading in a direction that would have taken him about 1000yds to get to a bank...I herded him to a bank about 200yds away. Some duck hunters were on a point near there watching me I imagine. Would have made any deer hunter happy to bag this guy. I didn't want to get any closer for a pic...no need to really stress the guy out and perhaps drown from exhaustion.

Sorry for the big pic...best way to really see him.

Awesome picture! I have encountered the same thing on a canoe trip to the boundary waters once. It is a sight to see.

I guess with the rut coming in, he was wanting to get his annual bath.
I've saw deer swimming the Ohio River. I watched a buck follow a doe across the river.

What magnificent creatures! And Big_B, THANKS for what you did. It is almost certain he would have drowned from exhaustion had he tried for that far-off shore. I know I will draw the ire of hunters here, but anyways--last weekend my husband and I were in a remote area north of here, on a little winding country road covered in forest--right at sundown. Close ahead, I saw something big in the roadway, and told hubby to slow down and stop--it was an enormous buck, with two does behind him--this noble giant just stood there majestically, and turned his head slowly to gaze at us, less than 30 feet away. His look seemed to be saying: why are you in my kingdom? He was huge--an impossibly big 10-point rack, and he looked very well fed--probably 250 pounds or more. I was frozen with awe, I did not even breathe for a full minute--I will remember that sight for the rest of my life. I truly believe God blessed me with that moment. He slowly turned back to the does, as if saying something to them, then they instantly disappeared in two magnificent leaps. We looked at each other in astonishment. It was SO COOL. I know herds have to be thinned (it is tragic for these gentle creatures to starve to death due to overpopulation), but I just hoped it would be a long time till he met a bullet...

I saw a big buck quite a few years ago cross the river I was fishing. The deer couldn't have been more than 20 -30 yards away from me. That was before cell phone cameras. It was a pretty cool sight

Nice pic!

I saw a nice 10pt 150 - class chasing a doe at the end of Oct. last year while on CC.

Awesome pic! That's the kind of thing that can make for a great day, even if you don't catch any fish!
