Default Atwood Bridges?

Hey has anyone ever tried fishing the bridges along 542 on Atwood for the Saugeye this time of year? I know Tappen gets hammered this time of year all the way until it's iced up. Just wondering if after the draw down if it would be worth a shot or should i wait until the ice is on? I have never fished Atwood on the ice and wouldn't even know where to begin. I figure all my favorite spring and fall spots would be no goes since they will be dropping the water levels. Has anyone ever done any good through the ice down there. Or would it be best to go somewhere else? I'm laid off so time isn't an issue but funds for fuel could be. So i try and keep my trips close and since i do well in the spring and fall and Atwood is only like 15 minutes away I wanna give her a go this year. Maybe i can link up with one of you guys who ice fishes down there. I have my own gear so that won't be an issue.

We do good for crappies on the ice at Atwood. Just look for the crowd and you will know where to fish. I never hear much about Atwood in the fall, but I'm sure some nice eyes can be caught.

Default Atwood ice.

hey where do you usually park and head out from when ice fishing? I think i read on here once before that there was a place off of 542 by some cottages near the lodge where there was access to the point that runs out from there? have you ever heard of this spot i looked on a map but didn't see anything that looked like the general public would have access. maybe i was looking in the wrong spot i don't know.

The lodge is the spot. Gets hit hard, but there can be some good fish caught.

This time of year is when you always hear of the big saugeye caught at Atwood and elsewhere, (see the latest Tappan eye post) but I've never been able to catch any fall hogs there. I mostly concentrate on the western half of the lake this time of year and usually don't go east of boaters beach if that far.
Am I missing the ticket by not hitting the sunken islands or arrowhead beach or even further east??? I've always fished shallow shoreline points and flats close to deeper water down by the dam and the West Marina channel. Trolling and casting cranks at night have produced, but nothing worth getting excited about.
Like myself, Sam, Mike, and a few others on here have inquiring minds regarding the secrets of unlocking the mysteries of Atwoods big eyes.

The water around all of the 542 bridges is shallow. 6' or less. The bridges at tappan are 3-4 times that deep. I'm not saying the atwood bridges won't produce. Just that they're not very similar to the tappan bridges. Of the 4 atwood bridges the one at cemetery bay wins hands down. Forget ice fishing that end of the lake. After drawdown it's dry from Dellroy to the east marina.

All Eyes,
I cant catch saugeye at atwood later than the first part of October either. Atwood usually starts first- mid may and ends first of october for me. The eyes have got to be there, just haven't figured out how to get them to bite in the cold.

Same here, after the first week in October i give it up till the last week of April and on into May till the first of June. I normally don't fish any later into the summer than that. However the stretch from the last beach at Sunset Valley on around to the point opposite the Boaters beach where the lake turns towards the Delroy end of the lake has been my best spot in the fall but for some reason they just weren't there this year. I do good zig zag trolling very slowly back and forth across the old road bed that runs diagonally from just before the public beach across to the opposite bank. pulling shad pattern shad raps or bottom bouncers with a spoon and sometimes worm harnesses in orange or lime green. But only managed 6 keepers total this year. Does anyone get them through the ice down there?

I'm hoping to get down there a couple more times before ice. Equipped with Vibees and spoons and minnows and jigs and Little Georges and Shad Raps and Husky Jerks and a thousand other sparkly wobbly contraptions.
I'm telling you they won't stand a chance.
