Northwest Ohio Newspaper

Reports Congressional Candidate

Has Ties to Anti-Hunting Group

The Toledo Blade reported yesterday that the Democratic candidate for the 5th Congressional District is a former employee of the nation’s largest animal rights group.

According to the newspaper, Robin Weirauch, who will be on the ballot Dec. 11 as a candidate to fill the unexpired term of the late Congressman Paul Gillmor, spent ten years as program coordinator for the regional office of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). The HSUS works to outlaw hunting and trapping, and its legislative arm, the Humane Society Legislative Fund, announced last week that it endorses Weirauch.

The Republican candidate is Bob Latta, a veteran state legislator and avid bowhunter.

The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance is a national association of sportsmen and sportsmen’s organization that protects the rights of hunters, anglers and trappers in the courts, legislatures, at the ballot, in Congress and through public education programs.
