Cabelas online has Daiwa AccuDepth Plus and Sealine reels on closeout.
The Accudepth 27LCW marked down $15 to $49.99 and 20$ off the sealine models, still no tax for ohio residents. And if you have a Cabelas Visa, free shipping
I checked out those accudepths at bass pro last week. The only accudepth that I own is pure junk. It had the gold sides and the spool would lock up when releasing line. These newer ones looked very nice, smooth, and well built.
I thought about it all night and my season's about done. Only 2 of my linecounters are matched out of a total of 6. My main cabelas depthmaster which measures in yards is about dead. Thousands of saugeye and catfish in 10+ years didn't hurt it,but the 100's of stumps and snags put a toll on her.
I've got 4 of the 27 LCW's ordered. It'll be a lot easier keeping track of my yardage next season!!!!
They dropped the price because they just released the B series. Look pretty nice as well. I've been happy with my 2 LCWs. Just found out how to calibrate the line counters as well. Always wondered why they seemed off.
I watched a Utube vid on calibrating. That guy used a 100' tape. That looks like a lot of work and probably ok in perfect snag free waters where you don't have to worry about losing a lot baits and line. 1st snag and lose quite a bit of line and you're back to re-calibrating it, LOL!
I just want a ballpark number between all 4. I've got a portable shakespeare linecounter and can use that to cross check the other reels in case they see little action because they're not close enough to the bottom. Line diameter would be the only thing that affects that portable. It still gives a reading regardless of how much line you have on spool.
Yeah I thought about snags and stuff where you'd have to remove some line and mess your numbers up but at least you'd have that baseline and just do some quick mental math to figure out where you're at. As it sits right now, I'm sure I'm waaaay off. I usually don't fill my spools. Never realized I had to until I saw that vid you're talking about. I though about the addon line counters but I'd probably end up tossing the thing into the lake on accident lol :$
That vid didn't mention anything about backing.Backing will throw the spool diameter off right out the get-go.
I bought some 20# mono to use as backing. Probably 50 yds on each new daiwa?
30# moss green spiderwire going on top of that. I just gotta figure out which amount and total # of spools of spiderwire needed to get all 4 perfectly matched. I'd like to at least get them full enough in case they ever get on Erie again.
i bought 2 17'c to go on my steelhead rods for flatlining cranks and I just went up to gander and they pricematched the 27's for me even though cableas was out of stock. Got dad 2 27's for his trolling rods to pull boards.
My four 27's arrived and already got the backing spooled on them! Now waiting on my spiderwire.
These are very smooth and not as bulky as some others. Nice loud clickers and the counter reset button is on the side so it'll be harder to accidently re-set when flipping the bail lever. Everything that I'd expect out of a line counter and very nice indeed!
That's what the vid shows that I watched. Watched it again and he said fill to near capacity. So basically if it isn't near capacity, there is now way you'll be able to calibrate it. Looks like an accudepth he's using it on as well:
Another thing I noticed,if calibrating to 100',your counter isn't correct until you hit that 100 on your counter,
I'll bet at the 50' mark of the tape it isn't even close to reading 50 on the counter, seeing as how it's getting on the skinnier part of the spool? Does this sound correct?
Calibration to 100'. Maybe if that's what you use to troll with. Can't get that much line out at Indian unless you wanna run shallow stick baits. I'd split it in half. Someone else will wanna double it to 200'.
I use 42' or so of actual line released while trolling. I would basically want to calibrate it 50' of actual real tape. 32' is where I set my releases for my offshores, but 44'-50' should get me close.
1st snag, lose a few yards, and that reel would not be calibrated.
I've got 4 reels to spool up so I'll have plenty of time to pow around with that calibration trick. I placed 201' of 20# mono backing on each-extra foot for the uni/seguar knot for my spiderwire. Hopefully the 150 yds of spiderwire will max out the spool.
Basspro and cabelas doesn't list the shakespeares.Ebay had 1 seller and for $30, which is highway robbery.
That berkely would be the next one I buy since I can't locate the shakepeares. Looks near identical in the pic. Berkely may have bought them out?
Very handy when 1 rod is tearing up the fish and the other rod with the same rigging is getting skunked! Just a few feet difference is critical for my setup.
Line came in today and got em all loaded up. Ended up having to add a lot more backing. Unless that spool in as full as possible, you won't be able to calibrate them perfect. I'm off 8'-10' on the plus side so I'll have to restrip and add extra backing to fill up that last mm or so that is left on the spool.

Since you have identical reels, put you braid on first them the backing to fill the spool, the tie the end of the backing to the new reel and wind moving the the line from the first reel to the second. Repeat process for reels 3 and 4. If you measure the amount of backing that you used, you should be ready to finish off the first reel with the backing then braid.

first time out with the linecounters on the steelhead 8-6 shirmano rods tonight, before we'd let out a ton of line to make sure we were wayy of the back of the boat and wed get numbers of saugeyes, tonight i tried distances from 80-150ft and no luck on the suageyes with either shad raps or bombers.. i think i'm gonna troll crawlers my next time back.
