Default Findley Lake State Park

For years dad and I would take one or two trips there a year for over night cat fishing trips. We use to slay them out of there, especially after rain storms. We haven't got a chance to in probably 4 to 5 years now, was just wondering in anyone has fished there recently, and if so how is the cat bite? Thanks. Zac

Do u usually fish it by boat only? We usually fish off the tip of the point that sticks way out into the lake....it's electric only right?

I caught the 3 last year from shore . 2 near the beach channel. 1 near the middle launch ramp. I just got a boat this spring and called ODNR they told me I could leave my gas motor on the boat but I can only use my electric trolling motor for prpulsion .

Was out last night in the creek channel. Using prepared bait, beef blood, managed 5 cats in 2 hours. 4 were in the 4 to 5 pound range and one just over a pound. They were real aggressive and the water was quite warm so I think they have already spawned. All went back to grow bigger. And just an FYI, I fish my baits close to sharp drop offs on shore under a float about 24 inches deep. Has outproduced bottom fishing for me 4 to 1 at least.

This will blow your mind. It's at best 6 feet deep and maybe 15 feet across. If you arc your cast at all, you hit overhanging bushes. I discovered this method about 10 years ago fishing from a canoe for bluegill. Any sharp drop on shore seems to work. As the season wears on and the water gets warmer, they seem to hug the shoreline feeding. Gets them every time. Haven't bottom fished for cats in a very long time.

I use the prepared bait in the red white and blue bag you get at Chet and frans. The most effective flavor seems to be big blue. I never fish the deepest water unless it is very close to shore with overhanging brush. I was back in the creek channel by the camp area. The boat rental channel is decent after dark or if you have a boat, the two points opposite the main boat ramp. I fish the north sides of those points.

Angry Skunked out on Sunday . Not even a bite !!!

After not buying bait on Saturday I drove all the way out to Findley thinking I could get my bait at Chet and Frans... WRONG ! It seems that they are the only bait shop anywere near Findley Lake and they are not open for business on a beautiful Sunday morning. How can that be ??? Anyhow I ended up using some Berkley Gulp Power Bait (Liver Scent) for Cats around 6:00am - 11:30 tryed a few different spots with the boat and got nothing. At the same time I was trying every lure and color combo for bass and again nothing.By this time I figured might as well go for some gills with a bobber and Berkley Waxies (white) since I didnt have any live bait as stated above. I will not spend any good money on any of the immitation pre packed soft baits from Berkley or any other company. From now on its REAL LIVE bait for me , I just have to make sure I buy it locally the nite before as I cannot rely on some redneck hillbillies to open there bait store on a beautiful weekend morning at prime fishing time. Shame on you Chet and Frans !!!!

Shad heads, cut shad, gill heads, cut gill, shrimp, liver, worms, processed bait. In that order. Bring a throw net, the shad are perfect size and plentiful there. Catch a few, cut them up, and then get ready.

No bait shop needed either. You catch your shad, dig for your worms, and use artificial for the bass.

Bigdogbull, they open at 7. You should have called ahead to find out. Also, bass at findley are not big nor plentiful. Cats and panfish are the norm and if you don't know the prime areas and times, it's a bust. Takes a long time to learn that's lake. Bass is better at the upground.
