88 johnson 90hp. i cant get fuel out of tank just installed hose and primer bulb set, cant get her to draw fuel out of tank. same problem as before with the old hose and bulb what to check and or chane next?? any thought would be appriciated
confirm bulb is in the correct direction. arrow pointing to motor. air vent on tank is open as most engines require this. maybe the nipple that your hose connects to on the engine could also be bad and worn.
thanks fellas i put new hose new connectors plus brass fitting on tank made sure arrow was toward motor, held bulb pointed up and squized till finally gas squirted out end of hose. then i connected short end of hose and plugged into motor.fired up motor and it ran fine then shut off and waited 10 mins and had to prime it to get her to fire up again, cause she just turns over not sure what im doing wrong..driving me crazy
i,ve got a 115 merc that does something like that. i dont know whats wrong with it. i have to prime it to get her started then she runs and starts good untill i let it set for awhile, then it wont start. so i just prime it again and it fires right up. i can feel the carbs filling up with gas when i squeeze the bulb, but it just wont start. i have a new hose and new tank. and i,ve checked to make sure the chokes are working and they worked good.
i just rebuilt my fuelpump on mine but havent had a chance to see if that helped. i also put a new set of plugs in it. i sure hope this fixes it. it gets to be a pain when drift fishing a school of crappir or just drifting a flat or something. i have to prime it after each drift. i guess i should just be glad it runs good after it starts. if you find the problem please let me know what your problem is.
If you got that far I would say it is the fuel pump. I dont know your engine, either your fuel pump or diaphragm have an issue. you can force fuel all day but if your pump wont keep up the siphon it will die every time. And your bulb should firm up prior to start and stay firm. Once you start up it may soften a bit but too much means its emptying out and not pulling fuel from tank.
Just looked and I believe you have a fuel pump separate from your carb, if so then a repair kit is $20 and a new pump is $50. keep doing what your doing by replacing parts. Keep in mind it is an 88 and maybe its just time to start replacing worn parts. They wont need replaced for another 20 years if you take care of the engine.
Well its been fired up 3 times today. after a run i waited 2hrs and then fired her up again first turn of key she started and ran so im thinking air leak somewhere i must have solved with the new hose and clamps etc...your responces where very helpfull and way appreciated i thank all of you for your help geting me going gas engine wise now im gonna trouble shoot the trolling motor..minn kota power drive (original). runs fine no left or right turn or only once in a while it mite not sure if its the junk foot pedal or not i know these pedals have huge issues especially if they get to wet
