Well, I offcially got outfished yesterday by not only my fishing partner, but my dog too.
I knew going in that taking my dog was going to be a PIA, due to having to use a canoe in the wind, but he gave me those eyes like "Are you REALLY gone leave me here?" He gets all crazy when I start loading boats...
Anyway, day started off a bit slow. One or two here and there. Then Rybo re-discovered his tubes and it was on...at least for him. I was a bit more stubborn...
But Rybo nailed a couple nice handfuls of fish. I know there were a couple in that 16,17+ range...and of course a couple pigs that got off. But Rybo really had the tube working; insert head.
Then my dog starts showing me up. We're hanging out on a gravel bar when my dog starts barking like crazy at something. We look up in time to see him pulling a friggin chainsaw out of the water. Where he found it...how he found it...dunno. But there was a jumbo sized crawdad that was using the casing as his new house and didn't want to leave. He either pinched Copper on the nose, or Cooper REALLY doesn't like chainsaws.
A couple stops later I'm tossing rocks foor Cooper to dig for. (He loves bobbing for rocks) and what does he bring back....a pitchfork!
Rybo says Cooper's like the stream safety patrol, keeping dangerous objects out of the water. And he is a pretty smart dog...I mean, i've taught him to shake off exclusively next to Stucky...LOL!!!
Riley very upset I've gone twice without him, next time buddy.
You've got one strange retriever, rocks, chainsaws, pitchforks. We got muddy water, but a float speed record, 6 plus miles under four hours, and four fish.
Wife gone Friday threw Sunday, overnight with dog's?
Awesome story. I can't wait to get out with my dog too. The canoe is in garage.. registered and ready to go. I'm out of pocket this weekend though hope to get out soon. Nice report. That's what it's all about.
Couldn't believe it to turn around and see a dog carrying a chainsaw out of a pool. The pitchfork was icing on the cake haha. Kind of changes your perspective of what you think you're lure is bouncing off of in that hole right?
Thanks Stucky and landarcjedi!
Streamstalker, you know damn well what that tube looked like haha. Trick is in this magic right wrist though...
Maybe more significantly was that he was throwing it on an insert head. I've been Trigging mine and not pegging the weight the past few years. But after that day, I believe I'll be either using an insert head or at least pegging the weight occassionally.
Man, I hate getting outfished by those friggin tube guys!!
Always good and always welcome, Rybo! Let's head south sooner than later.
Hahahah Bubba, Mr. Observant! That is significant, as well as some of the finer details about that insert head. But I'm telling you that I have a magic wrist, guys. Ever since I was a little kid...
USMCG and I got out on the same flow pretty early this morning. They were slaughtering the poppers for the first few hours. The fish were very aggressive and pretty much all over the creek, but mostly near wood. Larry and I both missed a pig. Those fish really wanted to jump and fight. Things slowed down drastically when the sun got over the trees--very intense. We managed only a couple per hour the rest of the way. I concentrated on the tube in depth and shade in the afternoon, but it didn't work for me--no insert weights or magic wrist--just a plain old tube jig.
I'll bet they'll be out like crazy again this evening.

Eh, you're talking up your magic wrist. Am I the only one just a little concerned?
