Default Emerald isle NC

Well headed down to North Carolina for a short 4 day trip. Went down to be there for my nieces 1 year birthday and to get to see my god son for the first time. I did manage to sneak to the shore to get a little bit of fishin in. The only thing is the fish didn't want to participate. We were going after blue fish and makersl at the inlet but to no avail. After about 4 hours of having our cut bait being stolen from crabs and what my buddy called pin fish we had to move the truck up a little bit. So I was holding the rods so we didn't lose our place, and once my buddy got back I saw a 2 inch fish were the truck was. Slightly baked from the sun I threw it on one of my hooks castes out and wack!!! Finally fish on!!! Well I thought I lost him so I continues to reel in and he was in there. The only thing is the fish was a 4 inch long pin fish. Well after my buddy made fun if me for a while we packed up and headed to the birthday party. Wasn't supposed to fish but I did get some I'm. All in all great trip.

A few reports of flounder being caught on live sand perch but did not see one thing realed in while we were there.
Just figured I would share.

That's the way it goes sometimes down there man... especially for those of us that rarely make it to the salt. When I first started, I had no clue what I was doing, but I fished anyway. Over time, I learned a few things here and there, but still struggle sometimes. If people were catching flounder in the area, you should have picked up some GULP shrimp and/or swimming mullet and hopped them slowly along the bottom on jigheads. Same tactic works in the surf and the sound, just have to use a little heavier jig in the surf and learn how to work the waves and currents while maintaining contact with the jig to feel a bite. This catches flounder, and will also pick up other fish from time to time... it's the tactic I use most when fishing the North Carolina coast. Cut bait will catch fish too, but can get annoying if you just keep getting picked clean by crabs and pinfish. Next time you get a chance to visit the coast, I'd suggest trying the GULP.
