You’ve been stalking this fish all summer, or has she been stalking you? She’s been by the stick up on the hump in Beaver Bay practically every time you’ve been there. You still remember the first time. Gliding silently past the big weed bed on the right as you cast the buck tail into, over, and around the weeds. Slowly heading over towards the hump with the dead wood stick up on the south end. Throwing the white bladed, black buck tail up the old creek channel so that it almost gets hung on the...

Muskies are slash and get feeders, correct?

The above pictures are of a shad that surfaced beside my boat one day last fall. As you can see this shad was injured by a toothy critter, presumably a musky. Keep in mind that most shad in Ohio at this time of year are 4 to 6 inches, this one is almost 10 inches. It was still alive so I took a couple...

Dorothy is finally getting the recognition she deserves. She was interviewed a few weeks ago by renowned musky fisherman, guide, and television host Pete Mania.
Dorothy is my long time fishing partner and long suffering wife. We fished together before we were married some 42+ years ago. She caught the first pike we ever caught on a fishing date and has mostly out fished me since. She has a 47 and two 43s to her credit, The biggest I’ve caught is a 42. She has caught 6 muskies in a...

How many times have you heard it? Big lures equal big fish. Match the hatch and you'll catch fish. Follow the forage pattern (size) and you're well on the way to catching fish. We've all heard them and wondered if they really are true. You've probably had many experiences that either prove or disprove the theory. I'd like to talk just a bit about some of mine.
Last May J.R. and I were casting at Leesville Lake. I was throwing a four inch homemade crank bait. J.R. was throwing an...

I got a call from Hoss' Baits, where I winter my boat, that my boat was ready!
The weather had been so nice that I was wishing I could get on the water, so this call couldn't have come at a better time. We made plans to go the next day, March 16th, because the weather was going to hold and they predicted a late afternoon or evening cold front. It was setting up perfectly, I could not have been happier!
