ended up with a pretty slow couple hours. caught 7 crappie between 6-9" and one bluegill. chartreuse worked super slow and near the bottom produced best. nada on the cranks, beetlespins. 2/7 came off the powerbait.

dunno why it was so much slower today. i got around 30 yesterday working the same structures with the same lures. might have to move north and see if i can't get into some of the other bodies of water.

that's two days w/o a crappie to put on the table - i'm glad i had coldcuts in the fridge. still, i gotta get me some of these edible fishies to put in mah belly

Me and my dad were planning a trip saturday to fish for smallies off shore. The 3 spots we were looking at going were the east 55th st Marina, the rocky shore west of the Intercity Yacht Club(if its public) and the shore of the Cleveland Nature Preserve. I think I have fished at the marina, but im not quite sure but I remember the walls to the main lake being several feet above the water, but is there good fishing on the marina side with the rocks or the rocks near the water discharge. We have never really fished Lake Erie before, but planned on using shinners on a bobber or tubes and jigs. Any help/tips/advice would be appreciated!
Thank you

Alright, as most of you know this is my first year trolling. I did well during the early spring bite running Huskies and Reef Runners, I always seem to have a knack for the jig bite and do well even when most others don't, then again I've been doing the jig bite for a few years now.

Since the fish have moved off of the reefs I've struggled to say the least. I've been mostly trying to get the harness bite going, but can't seem to do so. My first run at harnesses, I tried American Eagle Shoal and had two pull backs, one of which was a board sinker, but never seen a fin, it happens I know. But my last few times out, I haven't gotten anything to fire. I've tried harnesses, Reefs, and spoons around Green and Rattlesnake.....nothing.

Also I work 7 days a week, on third shift and mostly hit the water around 830 a.m and can only fish for a few hours as I get tired and need to hit the sack. So time is an issue, I rely on reports to give me an idea as to where to fish and what program to run, and because of time I pretty much have to find them, or just call it a day, It's tough.

How long do you guys run a program before you decide to try something else? And I understand these fish are on the move, so how do you decide what water to fish? Water temp, marks, type of bottom? I am probably over thinking things but I've never had such a hard time catching fish.

I think I may look for a open seat or cough up some cash and spend the day with a charter. I've lived on and fished Erie my whole life and have an Idea as to where to fish at what time of the year. What gives?

Fished Alum last night from about 6pm-10pm. Started around Howard and later moved to Cheshire. Caught 1 small cat about 12 in off cut frozen shad within the first 30 seconds my line was in the water. Only a few small bites after that. Saw another guy fishing for cat when we got to Chesire who said he hadn't had any luck either.

Did watch someone's car roll into the lake off the Howard boat ramp. Pretty amusing to watch, probably less so for them though.

When talking to the park ranger, he said a lot of people use cut bluegill for bigger catfish, mostly because you will only catch bigger catfish with them. This is obviously not the first time I have heard this, and I have used and seen other people use them for bait with no success. Then again, the lakes I used to fish regularly, have very few big ones (the biggest cat I've ever heard of coming out of Petros was 4#, Sippo certainly has bigger, but with only decent numbers). Thoughts from people more experienced around here than I am? I could easily rig one pole with bluegill and one with shad if blue gill are effective, but if shad will catch bigger ones just as easy, with the advantage of catching smaller ones too, I may just stick with shad. Since it probably matters in this case, I am specifically talking channel catfish, though if I caught a nice flathead I wouldn't complain.

Our .43 acre pond is bordered by trees and grain crops, lots of stuff has blown in over the 20yrs and we now have several inches of muck just about everywhere. Not a problem around the majority of the edges but the stuff is not appreciated in the swiming "sand" bottom areas. I have researched some of the "magic microbe" products, do they actually work or is this just a natural build up we are going to have to live with.....? Thanks for comments.....HT
