The Can Am Outlander 800 is currently the biggest baddest quad on the market in the utillity class. I don't know anyone that has one but I have heard good things about them. Just met a guy yesterday that had a Can Am Outlander 650 and he said he loved it. Can Am is formerly Bombardier (BRP) so they have been around. My personal choice for a utillity quad would be the new Yamaha Grizzly 700.

Bomdardier has owned the rights to the Can-Am name since they stopped making them (dirtbikes) years ago. They have always used the rotax engines, which are some of the best out there. My buddie has raced a rotax engine for years on the AMA flattrack series. Its just a marketing thing to go back to the Can-Am name. I personally liked the power of the 450 outlander that a buddie bought, but I seemed to be a little cumbersome/bulky for the tight trails, and I felt more comfortable on my 400 yamaha kodiak. It seemed to be the size of a full size quad to me, with a mid size engine. They are torque monsters though. My buddie was bitching last night about how his won't start when it is cold out. It takes it a while to start up in the morning when he is trying to get into the woods to hunt. I talked to a guy who has the 800 and he loves it too. That's just a lot of bike for the tight stuff, but if you are pulling implements or doing alot of hauling that would be OK I guess. I would personally go with the 700 Grizzly with power steering though like Bass Blaster said. The 660 was sweet, but the 700 is a bad machine.

yeah yam just came out with power steering on their 4x4s what an invention, because when you got a 4x4 quad locked in 4 lo, everyone knows they turn like a freakin tank

I'm with you on that. However my mind was changed 2 years ago when my Nephews buddy brought his 600 with us. At the end of the day we had a long hike back to the vehicles. He drove with himself, my Nephew, his other buddy, myself, and a deer on this thing and it never missed a stroke. I was impressed. I still like my little Kawasaki Bayou 220cc better and i ain't trading her in for anything lol. It's 11 years old and still going strong.

last fall we were in at wellsville and my buddy who was driving his polaris 500 magnum sheared off his balljoint on a rock which deemed this rig BROKEN AND STUCK. so another guy in our convoy has a polaris 700 twin. we strapped up the front end of the broken quad onto the 700, put a guy on the front rack of the 700 to balance out weight, and then one on the back of the 500 to keep the front end up and we SLOWLY BUT SURELY made it back to camp. so the 700 twin was hauling the weight of itself, the driver, the 500, and two other people. talk about a HOSS

WOW!!
For most riding situations its not necassary to have anything that powerful but it sure is nice to have power. For hauling heavy loads on the quad like in the last two posts I would definetaly go with a big bore. With 3 or more people on my 400 it starts to overheat pretty quickly. It does a good job towing other quads though.

john deer, can am, bombardier all the same junk.. yeah junk..
none of them are the real red machine, honda. honda has power steering now, there is a guy who rides with us on his big bad 800 outlander, we can go anywhere he goes, and he can't go everywhere we go, he's all the time getting stuck between trees or having trouble getting around tight places. and the stupid automatic clutch design really hurts it in tight places, like if you have to spin the hind tires just a bit in a slowturn like around a tree, it just sorta humps up, don't do anything.
the other day he pulled up a bank and stopped, when he took off he was chocked by a root, the 4wheeler just humped up and grunted... he thought his transmission was going out, but he finally figured it out,
not impressed by can am at all
