Bunch of Geese

Getting set for an afternoon field hunt. This is my sons first try at field hunting. Buddy is bringing 6 field blinds and a trailer of GHG and BF dekes. There have been 100-300 geese working our wheat stubble field for a week or more and twice that many doves. Just hope he does as well as he did on the youth opener last year when he limited.

Doves kept us busy between 3:30 and 5:00. Guys were trying to land a flock of mallards just for the practice calling. They would circle a bunch but would not touch down. My brother thought it was because there were no duck decoys and they were using duck calls. He switched to goose call and started working them when somebody called geese. They had snuck in from behind us. I looked out and they were ready to land in the pocket. We took 4 out of that 6. The birds started appearing on the horizon and within the next 1/2 hour we had limited. My 10 yr old was so wound up he hasn't stopped talking about it since Saturday. Told him yesterday that the guys were coming again today for another round and you should have seen the smile.

Birds were a bit more wary but we still managed to get 8 more. Jason hogged the jewelry again for his second band in 2 hunts

What part of the State were you in? We just started seeing our "regular" flocks on Sat. We have been having between 100-200 pretty regular now in the evening. Fri they actually landed in our standing corn field. My boy ended up getting off a couple shots on one. Fields should be cut this week so it won't be long til hammer time. Nice shooting and always exciting to hear about bling bling. lol
