I was about to make an all out effort to catch my first muskie this year once I got back from an easter visit to the in-laws, who lucky for me live on a lake. I was screwing around trying to catch some sunfish in the shallows, after making alot of deep casts from shore (they don't have their dock in yet) when I saw a swirl about 25-30 yards out. Figured it was probably a carp, but threw on a big spinner and dropped it right on that spot. bang! It was only 33 inches- don't think they get much bigger in this lake. It took me about ten minutes to get it in, cause I was using lightweight gear. Lot of fun- ended up going into the lake in my jeans for 10 minutes to revive it. I hope it made it. I've fished the heck out of that lake for 3 years, and this is the first time we got a musky out of there. seen them a few times.
Amazing to me, a lake in michigan early april and the water was warm enough for me to stand in for as long as I wanted. Waded out and fished for a while- no more though. Found another in a canal that links the lake with another, almost got it to hit, but ended up spooking it. Gonna try for it again in the morning (before the easter bunny has to hide the eggs for the little ones)
