Since I live smack dab between the Maumee and Sandusky rivers, I've been entertaining the thought of harassing white bass on their annual spawning run with fly fishing equipment. I'm sure streamers like clousers would be the weapon of choice. Anything else I should be considering? I'm fairly new at the whole fly fishing thing-so be as basic as you can get. :)

Doegirl, I have been trying to find out how to catch WB, hybrids and
stripers on the fly in OH. Here's what I have found in a nutshell. For stripers
Darren at Mad river outfitters has told me to use about a 5' section of T14
sink tip with about a 5' leader this will sink your presentation at about
9"per second or you can opt for an intermediate sink tip line. As for white
bass and hybrids I am going to start with the sinktip section first and
if this doesnt work I will remove and try my floating line. Theres a nice web
site flyfishohio.com, Joe (cornmuse on this site) shows a pattern for a simple
shad. This is what I plan on using in different combinations. I also plan
on using woolybuggers in typical colors. I cant go this weekend but next
Im planning a trip to the river. When do Wb usually run in the Maumee?
Do they run as well as years past. Are there places to wade or do you
need a boat? Any other questions please feel free to ask. There are alot
of people just willing to help.

Evileye: Thanks for the advice. As for spawn times. I caught my first white bass at the Maumee today. In a couple weeks they should really start to turn on... :)

Ever heard of little devils, or doll flies? Anything that imitates those two jigs will work. Catch a lot on Little Nippers also, chartreuse and white!!!!! red, pink
