Well I waited and waited for the buck and finally decided I wanted to take another deer before gun season. I was out Saturday morning and in the woods around daybreak, a little later than I would have liked. I sat in one of my newer stand locations that I hadn't hunted before but it was on a good trail. The snow was still on the ground so I could see that they were heavily using the area. Finally around 10:30 I was thinking of getting out of my tree for the morning to site my gun in with my brother. I looked behind me and here come 2 does(so I thought). The first one got up beside me and I shot and hit, unfortunately a bad hit. I hit it low and in the guts but I split it right open with my broadhead. Seeing how it was split open I watched it go away and figured it would lay down. I went and checked about 2 1/2hrs later and in fact it was down. There was a real good trail it left me to follow so I didn't really feel like I was rushing it too much. I thought it was nearly dead so I touched its face with my boot and it sorta came back to it, jumped up, and ran 20 feet and fell back down. I walked over to it and shot it again with my bow to put it down. I was unlucky to get the bad shot but I was lucky that it split open like that.
Yesterday my buddy showed me how to de bone, clean up and process the meat from skinning to packaging. I think it took around 5 hours.
I learned alot from this bow kill. Hopefully Saturday/sunday I can go get one with my gun.
