Well just wondered if we have any real campers here? No insult but I was always taught a real camper can hit the road in minutes and setup camp at any time. Any one here like that?
Actually I'm getting bored and the itch and need to talk. LOL

For starters, a real camper doesn't use a house on wheels. Call it what you want but it ain't camping. I'm not knocking trailers and RV's. Some people need the comfort , convenience and simplicity. If I'm not mistaken, you just upgraded, did'nt you viper1? Call it homesteading maybe. If it gets you out where you love to be, beautiful.
I'd go camping at the drop of a hat, any season, I love it that much. I'd need an hour(not a minute). It's hard to find people to go when it's not sunny, calm and warm.
I built a cabinet-on-wheels about 15 years ago, It's got everything I need except for shelter, bedroll, food, and firewood. I call that luxury camping.

I also winter backpack, which is a real hoot, but not for the faint of heart. Anything over 10 deegrees, I'm in.--Tim............................................... .................................................. .................................................. .........51641

LOL you got me there. Yes my wife upgraded I should say. She's also disabled but cant walk far or bend down or get in a sleeping bag. Shes had 4 total knee replacements and tons of surgery's. So yes we cheat only because I wouldn't be able to take her otherwise. I bought the first popup because of her and it got to be to much for us two. But she's like me and loves camping. But there is more to camping then what you sleep in. We love the outdoors even though we can't enjoy it as much these days. We usually camp close to a lake so we can fish. Can't use a boat with her to much unless I have help. We do enjoy the camp fire and cooking out side so our kitchen in the camper hardly gets used. I do like the refrigerator don't need to worry about ice. If we have electric. Don't use furnaces in them gets to hot and dry. Sleeping bags are enough when your out of the air. Mostly boon dock camp with out hookups so mainly just sleep in them.
I know it's not the camping I would like. But you make changes as your life changes. But I enjoy the fall and winter camping the most. Either in a camper or tent don't matter.

I havent done it in a while but I used to camp any time of year cold or not. Of course I used to be more flexible with camping too , if I had no tent with me I could sleep on the ground next to the fire , cowboy style. Cold water camping can be fun but if you are not prepared it can be really uncomfortable.

Yes totally agree. I always found the only required really good equipment was your bag. Always got a good polar bag that unzipped on three sides to make a blanket. Winter we zipped and summer open it up to sleep on. These days have changed a lot of things but still have good sleeping bags. LOL

90% of my camping is tent camping. I do use an air mattress now with my back problems. A good sleeping bag is important for sure. 30 years ago we use to tent camp for the entire deer gun season at Ohio power. We usually had one camper we used in case the weather got really bad, not to sleep but to cook in or get together and have a few card games. I miss those days for sure, but as we grew older we all started having back, knees and other problems which made us change how we did things. I honestly would try again if I could get the guys together again. Nothing like cooking on an open fire, and setting around the camp fire at night, I'll be back at it this spring with my brother and a few friends. Thanks for the topic, it brought back some good memories.
