im going on termenal leave here in like 3 days. it says in the ohio fishing brochers that if your an active duty soldier on leave you dont need a fishing license. so do i just have to buy one once my leave ends in july or do they give you a fishing liscense at the place you buy if you show them your orders or how does this work?

All you need is your leave paper. Define termenal leave If it means you no longer are on active duty, then you need a license.

LICENSE EXEMPTIONS
A FISHING LICENSE IS NOT REQUIRED OF PERSONS WHO ARE:
• Less than 16 years of age
• Giving assistance to an angler who is physically disabled, provided the
two persons together are using only one line
• Fishing in a private pond
• Fishing on land and water which they or their parents own
• Fishing on land and water where they or their parents are tenants on which
they reside and from which they derive the majority of their income from
agricultural production on that land (except state-owned lakes)
• Members of the U.S. Armed Forces on active duty while on leave or
furlough
• On May 7 & 8, 2011, any Ohio

• Members of the U.S. Armed Forces on active duty stationed in Ohio, but
NOT on leave or furlough are required to purchase a resident license.

Terminal leave means that you are finishing up your hitch on leave. Say your enlistment contract expires on July 16 but you have 30 days of leave on the books. You would be on leave, but on active duty beginning 30 days before July 16.

as far as my thoughts go you are on leave until the end of your enlistment. you could be called back to active duty by just canceling your leave. so yes you are still active duty. just carry your leave papers. but unless you have a huge amount of leave built up and you plan on getting the license at that time i would just go ahead and get them and be done with it. they will still be good for the rest of the year. now if it was only a few days until new ones came out. then i would go for it. but its not going to make any difference. and resident license dont cost that much anyway. ive bought non-resident license the last 2 years and only fished 2 weeks 2 yrs ago and 3 weeks last year. and the way it looks right now im not going to get to fish much more than that this year. i cant remember being checked on lake erie in the 20 odd years i,ve fished it. but i always buy the non-resident license just the same. just my opinion. and it aint ever been worth to much.LOL.

You are basically using your leave to end your contract. You are still active duty until your discharge date. Enjoy it while it is free. And (from experience) your terminal can be cancelled if you're recalled.

You're not on leave for the rest of the fishing season so it seems kind of irrelevant.

But would they look at that though? I'm thinking they would see he's on active duty, and since there's no fishing license for 30 days, give him a full year. Either way, it's $19 at worst... LOL

You're good till the date your contract expires. You'll still need to buy one the day after for the rest of the season.

You just have to suck it up and buy one. I have to do the same thing when I come home in Aug. Ohio loves those fines and fees.
