ok, is there a secret to raising sweet corn? or just poke the seed in the ground and wait. ???

That’s the short version. Plant at least 4 rows, more is better. Some people plant them in “groups” of 4 or so seeds rather than rows. Either way, many plants together are needed for good germination. Plan on loosing some, or a lot, to animals. I’ve had terrible trouble with chipmunks and crows pulling freshly spouted corn out of the ground. You also have to treat for worms when it gets to the silk stage. Then, you have to beat the deer, groundhogs, coons, and a variety of other critters to “your” corn when it ripens. :)
