I'm trying to plan a weekend camping trip with my 11 year old daughter. We would like to camp next to the lake and be able to fish from the site. We'd also like to have a wooded site for the tent. We'd be bringing a canoe with us.
Lastly, she'd like to do some hiking as well.

Any suggestions in Eastern Ohio would be great. We just moved here and I want to show how great Ohio is!

Thanks!

West Branch state park seems like it would fit the bill.

Ohio and PA both have some nice campsites at Pymatuning State Park, and some good fishing this time of year.

Mosquito is also very nice, in fact, our favorite.

Doesn't East Branch have camping too?

Don't forget Ohio Power(aep recreation lands), ponds for canoeing and awesome fishing, woods, hiking, and the best part is it's free! Plus, you could take her to The Wilds and see giraffes, rhinos, zebras, and a lot of other neat wildlife.

Without a doubt, Mill Creek Campground on Berlin Lake. Any water front site in the Oaks section will be great. My favorite is Oak 75 or Oak 73. They are on a steep bank and have direct access to deep water (cast into 20 ft) which makes for good fishing all along there. You can put a canoe in at the little beach at the turn around (maybe 150 yards) and tie up right at your site. Also, that whole area of the lake is no wake and way back and around a bend from the main lake body (5 minutes by boat at idle) so you can paddle around in complete safety and shelter from the big boats and the fishing is great back there. I'm posting a link to Reserve America where you can book the sites online which you will need to do for a weekend if you want a good one. Some of the Oaks sites are non reservable but I wouldn't take my chances if you want a killer campsite. I've camped all over the country and this is one of my favorite spots. There is also a place called Noah's Ark animal sanctuary that is about a 2 min drive where they rescue exotic animals like lions and tigers. You can hear the lions grunting at night!
