Got out a couple hours to a local spot I have not been in a while looking for saugeye and hoping for smallmouth. Got into this saugeye at dusk on a husky jerk just below a ripple where it drops into deeper pool. I forgot to measure again (old age) but would estimate 18-19". I pretty happy with quality of fish caught this spring but can't help but wondering when the quantity are going to be there. Have not had any trips yet where the bite was really on.

Another nice fish! I'd be estatic catching half the fish you catch! On average, how much time do you put into fishing each week? I'm just looking for an excuse to spend more time fishing.

Once that water temp goes up a bit, upper 50's to 60, the smallie bite will increase significantly. According to indianlake.com, indian lake water temp yesterday morning was 52 degrees. The upper GMR should be close to that temp as well since Indian Lake feeds the river. I think the first two weeks of April will be a hot pre-spawn bite period.

This time of year I go out about 2 times during the week for 2 hours each (after work). Try to hit river at least once on weekend for 4 hours. So about 3 trips totally 8 hours would be a good guess. The GMR runs within a few hundred yards from my house and a bike path runs along it, so quick access makes this possible. If I get home at 5:45 I can be on the river by 6:00.
