Default St. Croix Avid Serires 7ft - 2 piece or 1 peice???

I'm going to buy a 7ft medium light St. Croix avid series and don't know if I should buy a 2 piece or 1 piece rod? Do you feel you lose sensitivity or any advantage by purchasing a 2 piece? The obvious reason to buy the 2 piece would be portability, but will there be a sacrifice??????

any help would be appreciated!!!

Yes, you lose sensitivity. I believe portability is all you gain. Also sometimes the pieces come apart when reeling a fish in, which I suppose adds to the excitement.
I fish St. Croix today have have an Avid series in ML 7' with an XF tip. I use this rod for a dual purpose drop shot rod, and jigging rod for walleye. The jigs for walleye must be light, less than 1/2 ounce because it is so sensitive if feels like i am dropping a cinder block on the bottom. I use a 7' M Fast action rod for jigs 1/2 ounce and up.

My vote is for a 1-piece unless mobility is an issue. A 1-piece rod is more sensitive and is stronger. You also do not have to deal with the upper end flying loose when casting too. I own three St. Croix's (Legend Tournament and Avid) and they all are one piece for the reasons I mentioned.

Loss of sensitivity will be so minute its not worth considering. Its not like the old days where the rods joined with metal connecting parts. Sensitivity is purely subjective anyhow.

There are many high end rods that are 2 piece and even so with the telescoping rods.

The biggest reason why I would say one piece is because of what Soua said, you dont want the top half flying off when you cast. I lost many 2 piece rods doing so and thats why I made the switch to 1 piece. If I can get away with telescoping, I go that route.

I agree that the difference in sensitivity is too little to be concerned about. Guess Al Linder or Kevin Van D might be able to feel the difference. I can honestly say that I have never had a top section release from the bottom section on any of my seven St.Croix rods. I have had that happen on less costly rods though.

with today's graphite's, i don't think you will even notice any loss of sensitivity. these guys are right. wish i had never bought one pc. st. croix's. my two pc. rods are every bit as sensitive and a lot easier to transport.

If the rod is transported in a car get the 2 piece,If transported in truck get the one piece.Usually 2pc rods are more expensive than their one piece counterparts in the higher end rods like the croix and loomis.

One piece all the way. I have a ski sack that I use and I can put 8' rods in it.

The ferrules on a two-piece can be damaged too.
