I hope they do some serious investigating into the possibility that this was done on purpose.

I think the river was the lowest I've seen in years and I saw stuff I've never seen before. That was worthwhile, but it made getting up the river tricky in a couple places.

I was trying to plan out some fishing on the Stillwater this weekend, and saw that tomorrow it is supposed to rain in the morning and be around 78 degrees.

I was just wondering how you guys think the rain effects the fishing, specifically in the rivers. Is it better to get out before the rain, or even during? Does the rain force the fish down in the water? I would assume that the rain and run-off clouds the river up, especially when talking about the low-and-slow SW.

Last weekend I made it out in the late afternoon when a 20 min shower rolled through. Right before the rain we caught some gills. I had a pole sitting deep and in the middle of the rain I caught a really decent yellow cat.

Also, anyone know how big yellows can get in the SW? I dont have a scale yet, but I am guessing the biggest one Ive ever caught on the river was approx 3lbs, and a little over 14''. I never see pics of yellows on this website either, are they considered a bastard fish or something? We get them all the time.

:A little known lake.....

This is one location where PPG dumped hexavalent chromium in the 1950's and 1960's to make their famous paint and coating by-products. :goat:
Pancake Creek Lake used to be closed to the public, somebody took down the signs this Spring, you access it from the RR tracks \Ohio Erie Towpath Bike trail near Center Road just north of Clinton.
There are usually one or two people fishing there.
It's not a huge lake, maybe 20-30 acres in size....might be about 12 feet deep at most...not sure.
Easy if you park at the parking lot for the Towpath, walk up the road 25 yards and down the RR tracks about 100 yards, and it is up on hill to the right...
You can easily see it if you go to MapQuest and zoom in a little north of Clinton.
Pancake Creek Lake has good populations of fish, mostly carp:B, bullheads, stranded river pike, smallmouth bass, suckers, pumpkinseed, bluegills, crappie, warmouth bass, and rock bass in good numbers.
You can take a rod and cast there from shore, nobody ever comes out since it is never patrolled, it is a neat lake with easy shore access. :G
The creek on the east side that leaves the lake is public, and there are about 15 big stranded carp just below the dam at any given time.

The PPG signs all over Barberton from Vanderhoof Road, south into Clinton along the towpath you'll see if you have biked are about no trespassing due to chromium waste ponds.
Lake is to the south and west of those signs and the towpath.
The creek flows into the Tusc, near the Towpath, so some of those metals made it into the Tusc according to this report.
You can see the map of the area in the EPA report below.
EPA predicts another 10 to 15 years left before fish from the Tusc might be safe to humans to eat.
In case the link below does not work, you can paste "Biological, Sediment and Water Quality Study of the Tuscarawas River, Wolf Creek
and Hudson Run" in a search engine to read the EPA report.

Just got back from a long weekend trip to Denver, CO. I took my wife there to see Tift Merritt, Ray LaMontagne, and David Gray at Red Rocks Ampitheatre in Morrison, CO for her birthday. Red Rocks is an awesome venue with great acoustics to go along with the great scenery. The show was pretty darn good too - especially from the third row!

While in Denver we visited a few of the local micro-breweries (Wynkoop Brewing, Great Divide, Oskar Blues in nearby Lyons, CO) which were all very good. Also took in Colorado Rockies game at Coors Field - which is a really nice park if you're a baseball fan. Drove up to about 12,500 feet in Rocky Mountain National Park and saw some elk (including a big bull elk by the side of the road and a big mule deer buck).

Minus that whole John Elway thing (The Drive, The Fumble, etc), I thought Denver was a pretty cool city and look forward to attending another show at Red Rocks. Oh, and hitting all those brew pubs again, too!

Last week I took my trip down to the river only to find the levels were umbarebly low. Generally this is a love/hate relationship. Love it when you can find the concentrations of feeding fish and hate not finding them, or knowing the temps are up and fighting fish in the heat that push your tackles limits can ultimatly can lead to a disaster! Generally speaking the ''Twilight hours'' are the only time I will be seen in water this low.

That being said I hit the river around 7pm running up and down stream to find any fish that was hungry for my lure :D around 8p.m. I decided to walk up stream in search. Throwing a large black cavitron buzzbait that has four blades and a clicker/clacker had my first runin with a smallie from this river and he was way further upstream than my usuall targeted area. He was in the 10-12'' range and put up and awesome fight there nothing like watching a small mouth try to drown a topwater bait expecially when hes half the size of the bait.

8:30 the sun was set and I knew it was time for the bigboys to come out and play. I ventured back down to my usuall routine throwing a bomber b in chrome in blue into the beloved rifles. 2nd cast in a felt a hard knock and finally was felling the fury of the smallmouth bass. He instantly went airbourne after being hooked and then dove to the bottom pulling line like I would have never expected. Its amazing how strong these fish are with current at their backs.
[IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG]

Last night I hit the river again with Fallen by my side in attempt to find the targeted fish I been waiting for. Throwing the same bomber b in chrome and blue I ended up with a worthy sliming from this buffallo . I must admit I was sad it wasnt a wiper like I thought it was but it shure fought like one. This thing had some wheels. It was a very unxepected catch but a great one for my first.
We didnt even put in until 11:30 last night and we fished until about 3. Wind was terrible, ecspecially for it being night time. Also the barge traffic was pretty heavy (which did not suprise me too much as they are probably trying to push through the area before all of the festivities this weekend in Cincinnati) so those two things made drifting a little more of a challenge.

However even with that we had an ok night we caught 9 fish 8 blues and 1 channel. All of the fish were very healthy hit the bait hard and fought well.
